Talento Bilingue de Houston (TBH)
Purpose:
Entertainment
Notes:
Talento Bilingüe de Houston proudly presents Dan Guerrero’s feature length film Lalo Guerrero: The Original Chicano, an hour long documentary that celebrates the life and career of his Father, Lalo Guerrero (1916-2005). Taped interviews with Linda Ronstadt, Paul Rodriguez, Edward James Olmos, Ry Cooder, UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta, Cheech Marin and others, describe the influence and impact of Lalo’s music from a personal and professional point of view. This special screening will be on Friday, August 3rd at 7:00 p.m.
This is a powerful documentary of an ‘Original’ American musician, according to Jorge Piña, artistic director of Talento Bilingüe de Houston. I first met Mr. Guerrero when I was in my teens and witness his ability to mesmerize his audience members.
Taped re-enactments and historic news footage illustrates the times he lived in and the music he wrote. Lalo tells his story as no one else can with insight and humor. Rare photographs from the Guerrero Family Trust and clips of both television and live performances complete the tapestry.
Mr. Guerrero has received many awards throughout his career including the prestige’s National Medal of The Arts (1997) awarded by President Clinton. For more information on Mr. Guerrero’s lifetime achievements, please visit www.originalchicano.com.
