Notes: Houston s premiere Flamenco company, Lucia y Valdemar Gitanerías Flamenco return to our stage for an unforgettable journey through passionate rhythms of southern Spain and northern Spanish Celtic music.

Lucia Rodriguez-Sanchez and Valdemar Phoenix have been performing together with their group Gitanerías Flamenco since 1983. Their work, firmly based in the essence of traditional flamenco, also reflects a contemporary approach to the art.

Lucia y Valdemar have performed at major international festivals, at college campuses, schools, and arts events throughout Texas, where they are based. Their work has also taken them to Alabama, Louisiana, New York, the New England States, Canada, and Washington.

They have toured through the Texas Commission on the Arts since 1983 and performed under the sponsorship of Young Audiences. They are also on the touring roster of the Mid America Arts Alliance.

They were the subject of a Houston PBS documentary, and they are the producers of Gráfico, a made-for-TV video production, which was broadcast through Time-Warner. Their first CD, Nuestra Sangre Flamenca was released in 1998, and their second CD, Ritmo Azul, was released in July 2005.

Event: H-E-B Holiday Parade
Date: Thursday, November 22, 2007
Time: 9:00 am
Cost: Free
Organization:
Purpose: Entertainment
Notes: The holiday spirit hits Houston every Thanksgiving morning when this parade begins winding through downtown. This lavish parade is nationally televised and features sensational floats, uniformed marching bands and the season’s first glimpse of Santa Claus.

The Houston’s Thanksgiving Day Parade began in 1949, when Santa arrived at Union Station and rode his sleigh to the downtown Foley's. That led to a 44-year tradition – the Foley's Thanksgiving Day Parade. In later years, Bank United and Washington Mutual each claimed the title sponsorship. In 2006, H-E-B was named the new title sponsor of the parade. The Parade also received a new look and logo, and is now referred to as the H-E-B Holiday Parade.

The parade is telecast live locally on KHOU-TV, Channel 11 and is syndicated in many other major markets throughout Texas and beyond.
