Central Houston Inc., Houston s non-profit organization dedicated to the revitalization of downtown, will celebrate 26 years of progress at its Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 8th.

This year s featured Keynote speaker is leading American pollster John Zogby. President and CEO of Zogby International, John Zogby is one of today s most respected and accurate pollsters in the United States. He has polled and contributed analytical expertise for Reuters News Agency, NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, The New York Post, Fox News, Knight-Ridder Newspapers and many major newspapers including the Houston Chronicle. Zogby has polled, researched and consulted for a wide spectrum of business media, government and political groups and is most well known for his presidential election polling results. During his Keynote Address at Central Houston s 26th Annual Meeting, Zogby will pull from his research and experience to talk about what the future holds for America s Central Cities.
Central Houston Inc. will also present the annual Allen Award for Civic Enhancement. Initiated in 1987, the basis for the award lies in its history. After sponsoring the restoration and permanent framing of the original founding map of the City of Houston, Central Houston wanted to recognize the efforts of corporate and civic partners who have made a significant difference in downtown s quality of place. Past winners include Texas Eastern (1989), Houston Endowment Inc. (1999), Toyota Center (2003) and Discovery Green Conservancy (2008).

Chinese culture comes to life when the Shanghai Dance Company takes the stage at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Splendid China IV on October 9 & 10, 2009. The company s highly anticipated Houston debut features all-new dazzling and acrobatic choreography performed by China s top dancers.
A rising star in China, Shanghai Dance Company has captured the hearts of adoring audiences all over the world. The company has won numerous medals and national recognitions at China s most prestigious dance competitions. Shanghai and Beijing s major newspapers report, In the past few years, the Shanghai Dance Company has developed tremendously to become China s #1 in dance companies. The Company has recently toured France, Peru, Belgium, Netherlands, Columbia, Finland, Japan, Argentina, Chili, Germany, Singapore, and Thailand.
In Splendid China IV, Shanghai Dance Company will present seven most recent award winning choreographies from China. Travel back in time to experience the different cultural regions of China including Tibet, Xing Jiang, and Yunnan. Flying Dragon and Soaring Phoenix, 2009 China s National Dance Silver Medal winner, guarantees a wild ride. Also, performing are bronze medal winners of the 2009 China s National Dance Competition: Crane in the Pond and Standing by the Water.
This concert is presented by Dance of Asian America, a Houston-based nonprofit organization with an esteemed local company dedicated to promoting and preserving the cultures of China through dance. In Splendid China IV, Dance of Asian America and Mitsi Dancing School, Houston s most established local Chinese dance school, will also perform six award-winning choreographies from famous artists in China.

Shows are free but tickets are required for seating in the covered area. Tickets can be picked up at the Box Office between 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM on the day of the performance. Four tickets per person. Remaining tickets are available at the Box Office starting at 7:00 PM. Unclaimed seats are released 5 minutes before show time.

Bikers 4 Charity is having this fundraiser event in order to help La Rosa Family Services in its efforts to heal and prevent Domestic Violence.
Riders are welcome to register and ride through Houston, and then meet at the North Shore Rotary Pavillion for a day of live bands, BBQ, Bike Wash, Live Futbol Game, and Games.
Notes:
Riders have to register at 9:30 am at the Harris County Education Building @ 6300 Irvington, Houston, TX 77022. Then the ride will go directly to the North Shore Rotary Pavillion Central Park @ 14350 1/2 wallisville rd. Houston, TX 77049.
The payment of registration includes vendors, ride, shirt, and pin (while supplies last)
